The Wonders in Your Pantry // Cinnamon and Honey

A long while back I began ongoing journey of natural remedies to help curve my lifestyle. Now I’m hoping that it helps my son and hubby-to- be. As he says “knowing the old ways” might be far more helpful to us in the long run than being medicated to death as we age. (Of course he came to this conclusion AFTER I spent some time in the kitchen whipping up different dishes and remedies. Yet I will not be the one to let him think otherwise since he’s so sweet to state it.) I’ve accumulated a compilation of benefits of cinnamon and honey combined! It even varies from preventing hair loss to defeating the common cold. Here are the perks of the common, yet awesome, cinnamon and honey.

Combating Hair Loss

For hair loss or baldness, apply a paste made out of hot olive oil, one tablespoon of honey, and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder. This should be applied before bathing and keep it on for approximately 15 minutes. It can be rinsed out with lukewarm water.

-Personally I’ll be trying this on my mother’s thinning edges. She usually enjoys an experiment or another if the ingredients are natural enough. She isn’t a natural headed lady anymore, so the relaxers and gaps between the processes are actually taking a toll on her mane.

Weight Loss

Drink honey and cinnamon powder boiled in one cup water first thing in the morning (empty stomach). If taken regularly it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. Also drinking of this mixture regularly does not allow the fat to accumulate in the body, even though the person may eat a high calorie diet. Weight loss can be due to different reasons. Some people do over dieting to reduce weight which affects their body’s immune system. Losing weight is fine but that should not be at the expense of harsh dieting and skipping your vitamins and minerals. So instead of dieting, change your eating habits. Drink more water to boost your metabolism, invest in eating more raw foods. When you feel a snack craving coming along, peanut butter on celery sticks are a great way to fight it. Celery has no real health benefits, but because it is a form of empty calories it helps you burn calories that you are housing. The peanut butter is a great source of protein. For those who are pairing this method with exercise, expect some muscle gain!

Heart Disease

Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread, instead of jelly and jam, and eat it regularly for breakfast. It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, they are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada , various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that as you age, the arteries and veins lose their flexibility and get clogged; honey and cinnamon revitalize the arteries and veins. Before- YES BEFORE- going cinna-crazy make sure you consult your doctor. Cinnamon can and will thin the blood

Acne

Three tablespoons of honey and one teaspoon of cinnamon powder paste. Apply this paste on the breakouts before sleeping and wash it next morning with warm water. If done daily for two weeks, it removes pimples from the root.

(I’ve tried it and it works pretty well for me when I remember this one when I break-out in acne during *that* week.)

Skin Infections

Applying honey and cinnamon powder in equal parts on the affected parts cures eczema, ringworm and all types of skin infections.

Bad Breath

People of South America , first thing in the morning, gargle with one teaspoon of honey and cinnamon powder mixed in hot water, so their breath stays fresh throughout the day.

These are just a few that I scoured over the net. I have a book filled with the remedies and when I find it I’ll post a picture of the bad-boy. Hopefully this comes off as pretty helpful. Remember that honey alone also makes the hair moist! (Keep in mind it also lightens the hair itself.)

  1. Great tips and I love diy regiments….Last week I did the cinnamon powder olive oil and honey it was not that bad my hair was just a little dry…..

    • I get that from time to time so instead I did the mixture with my most moisturizing conditioner. Just like any other diy the best part of the recipe is making it your own. =)

    • As an add on to my protein treatment, not for hair loss. But if I get to try it on my mom’s edges I’ll do a before and update weekly on the results over a month’s time.
