A lawmaker in Tennessee, State Rep. Antonio Parkinson, is assisting Tennessee stylists in creating cosmetology schools centered solely around natural hair care. Brinetta Carlton, a stylist who owns her own natural hair salon, cites her experience during her days as a student, stating not much time was spent going over the specific needs of natural African-American hair. Carlton told Fox News there seemed to be a lack of knowledge on the part of the school of how to handle kinky hair properly. Parkinson spoke with Fox news as well and informed us that there is no specific law that says a school geared toward natural hair care can be built, but that there is also no law prohibiting the establishment of one either.
